Camping

Bush camping can be an incredible way to experience nature and really connect with the environment and local communities. We like to keep bush camping as simple and comfortable as possible but with imported goods and luxury comforts kept to a minimum so you can really focus on enjoying the experience.

Where necessary our camping based packages make use of public campsites and their amenities (particularly on wildlife safaris), which can sometimes become quite busy, however wherever possible we try to choose the quieter ones. Otherwise we use private campsites allocated to us by local communities.

The Tanzanian bush can get very dusty at certain times of the year. We have a water conservancy policy and the opportunity to wash is relatively limited so be prepared to get a little grubby!

Mobile Camps

Our camps are completely mobile (so no permanent structures) and come fully equipped with portable "eco-toilets", camping shower (en-suite for mid-range packages) and mess tent.

Campers can expect spacious, fully ventilated safari style sleeping tents with mosquito meshing on the inner doors. Inside each tent is a thick foam mattress (3 inches) with sheets, blankets and pillows. There are also hooks for hanging torches and pouches to store belongings. Independent travellers booking a mid-range package can also expect their own private "veranda" complete with coffee table and chairs.

Currently 90% of our camping equipment is either locally made to a high standard or purchased locally - reducing our carbon footprint and providing much needed income for local manufacturers.

Dining

All of our bush chefs are highly trained and experienced, and go out of their way to serve you the best meals possible. Our menus are based almost exclusively on the use of fresh, locally farmed/produced ingredients. Meals are typically served buffet style with hot drinks, filtered water and an assortment of fruits juices. We make as many foods as possible from scratch on the spot, from freshly baked goods to home-made marmalade.

We make use of a mixture of fuels for cooking such as dead wood sustainably collected from the surrounding bush, gas cookers sustainabluy sourced charcoal and briquettes.

"Leave no Trace"

We ask clients to be vigilant about their rubbish, making sure it goes in to the trash box provided, which is recycled (where possible) or disposed of at the closest urban centre. We endeavour to use eco-friendly cleaning products in all our camps and filter our own drinking water using state of the art filtering equipment from Lifesaver Systems instead of buying in bottled.

Lodges

We choose the lodges we use very carefully making sure that their ethos and policies are as close to ours as possible, paying particular attention to fair employment practices, corporate social responsibility and environmental policies, their involvement with the local community,  as well as the quality of their service and overall atmosphere of the lodge. Some might find this picky (and balancing these components is not easy) but we feel that businesses who have happy, contented staff, good relations with the local community, low environmental impact and high standards of service are much better equipped to provide a comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable experience for our clients!

Depending on your itinerary, the standard of lodging available can vary from budget to luxury. Be sure to let us know what standard you are interested in on booking.

The lodges we book are subject to availability but we will always try to offer you our first choice or another of a similar standard that fits our list of requirements as closely as possible.
